We have finally made it out of Auckland!
Yes its taken us a while, but we are in Palmerston North tonight. The last days on the North Island. We have booked the boat that will take us to the South Island for the 23 of feb.
So what have we been up to?
Well, when we where in Auckland we met up with Josh again. (This is someone we met in the Kahoe farm hostel). He had suggested to come and make the real belgian fries for him and his family when we where in Auckland next, so we did.
It took us a while to get it right, the potatoes and oil, are not the same. But the end result was pretty decent so they got the idea of what there supposed to taste like.
In the evening Josh showed us around Auckland, and when we came upon a belgian bar, we advised him on what kind of beer he should drink!
The family was kind enough to let us stay the night, so to Josh and the rest of the Bartlett family, THANK YOU! for making us feel welcome.
After that we went to visit Mata Mata, this is where the shire is and we stood in front of the party tree. For the non Lord of the Rings fans. This is a place where part of the movie Lord of the Rings was filmed, its where the hobbits live.
We drove to Taumarunui the same day and some how Ine and Katleen ended up joining in with a football match.
We went there to visit Leen (a friend of Katleen who moved to NZ about 4 years ago). We met at the tournament in the town and they where a player short so why not.
We stayed at the farm for a couple days, its situated almost in the middle of nowhere. It was really cool for us townies to get a glimpse of what they do on a farm in NZ. We got the chance to sheer a sheep (wel a part of it), we also saw how the real sheerers do it. (just a little faster).
We saw a cow give birth, as in we saw Brendon give her a hand. The calf was a little stuck so he had to pull it out.
I even watched as others where working hard to build a hayshed, no, I think I shovelled a bit of dirt into a hole. Yes, it was really hard work!
Everything was a really interesting, and before we go to aussi we will go back to learn some more.
The second day we where there, we joined in with the sportsday the neighbours organise every 2 years. They had the same kind of games we played in the youthclub, so we had lots of fun.
In the evening we had a good bbq to end a good day.
We also went to Rotorua. This is the town that smells like farts, it really does. Its because of the thermal activity. The earth boubles and farts away here. In the evening we went for a traditional Maori meal (Hangi). They pull it out of the ground but its really yummy. They also had a show telling us about their traditions.
I will have to tell you more about it tomorow because the internet place is closing down. Goodnight
Hoe zit het nu met die opdrachten?? What about the challenges??
